2. Get Pre-Approved for a Loan

If you prefer, complete more in depth pre-qualification service that will enable us to speak with our Greek banks on your behalf and obtain an agreement in principle from them. With this information, you can confidently start house hunting.

3. House Hunting

Visit Greece to view properties.
When you find the property you like, you will usually be asked to pay a small deposit to take the property off the market.

4. Get Pre-Approved for the Mortgage

If you have not already obtained an agreement in principle from a lender, now is definitely the time to do it. Contact us and complete the online pre-qualification form.

5. Apply for the Mortgage

You will then need to submit a mortgage application. Each lender is different, but generally you will need to provide:

signed application form
proof of income documents
bank statements
identification documents
property documents (these will usually be available from the selling agent)

We will provide you with a personalised list of required documents when you decide to proceed.

6. Property Documents

You will be asked to sign a Purchase Agreement when you make an offer on the property.

7. Mortgage Approval & Survey

You should then receive an approval from the lender and a survey of the property will be arranged.

Each bank operates slightly differently, but usually, the whole file, with your details and the survey on the property will be sent to the bank’s head office for formal mortgage approval.

8. Final Stages

You will either need to visit the notary in Greece to attend completion, or arrange for a Power of Attorney (usually your lawyer) for completion and transfer of ownership of the property. The bank will also have a representative present at the signing. At this stage the money will change hands and the notary will notify the land registry that you are the new owner of the property. This is when most of the fees and taxes will be due to be paid too.
